A rainy city day with children: rethink the day bag
Rain does not always mean carrying more, but it does change the arrangement. Your dry spares need to stay accessible even after damp items begin finding their way into the bag.
Separate dry from damp
Give spare socks and a spare top their own closable pouch. Make space for used items too. Test whether the bag still closes when packed, and whether you can reach the essentials without lifting out everything above them.
Match clothing to the plan
A long outdoor walk needs a different setup from short walks between indoor activities. Avoid carrying every rain item at once. Try the selected coat and footwear before departure so children can move comfortably in the combination you have chosen.
Unpack damp items that evening
At the accommodation, remove damp pieces and use the available drying space. For tomorrow’s list, count only things that are actually usable. A still-damp jumper or pair of shoes should not silently become the foundation of the next day’s plan.
A short packing check
- A separate dry change and space for damp items.
- A coat chosen for the plan and familiar footwear.
